M-Mode Technique

Currently, the American Society of Echocardiography guidelines for performing m-mode measurements of the left ventricle look something like this:

  • measure the left ventricle at end diastole (largest chamber diameter)
  • use the "leading edge to leading edge" technique:

  • obtain m-mode from PLAX. Or PSAX (the reference literature remains surprisingly mixed on this point).
